SLATE
Slate is one of the most durable, sustainable, and aesthetic roof systems available. It is sourced from a naturally occurring metamorphic rock that is refined to yield thin, durable plates for structural applications such as roofing. When properly installed, slate is secured in an overlapping pattern that creates a visually striking roof system that can last for generations. Slate is available with different color variations ranging from a near-black tile with a higher carbon content to a lighter, rosier tint from mineralized iron content, and any range of blue, purple, and green in between.

Slate is considered a sustainable material for its endurance, natural sourcing, recyclability, and insulating efficiency. The density of a slate roof means a higher insulating R-value that will retain internal heat during cold weather months, and block UV heat during warmer seasons. Slate is also naturally mold, fire, and wind resistant, and a properly installed slate roof will effectively shed water and snow. Slate also has naturally low water absorption, meaning a resistance to damage from frost.

Slate is a centuries old application that is tried and true. It is aesthetic and durable, and one of the most reliable roof system applications on the market, particularly for the cold-weather climate of Vermont and New England.
