COMPOSITE SLATE
Synthetic composite slate is an innovative, eco-friendly modern application that has developed for its efficiency and sustainability. The tiles are a composite of recycled plastic and polymer that is manufactured to mimic the aesthetic characteristics of traditional slate but for a more economic cost and with the environmental advantage of repurposing existing materials for a lower carbon footprint. The manufacturing of composite slate roofing tiles diverts millions of pounds of material waste from landfills and detracts from mining of the non-renewable resources. For the environmentally conscientious buyer on a budget, composite slate is an excellent choice.

In addition to the innovative nature of composite slate, these tiles also weigh considerably less than traditional slate, meaning a significantly lighter weight load for the internal structure of a building. Notwithstanding the physical character differences between traditional and composite slate, this newer, repurposed version shares many similarities to its historic cousin when it comes to mold, wind, and fire resistance by boasting the highest scored ratings for synthetic roofing material. Most composite slate product has a Class 4 impact resistance rating, which is the highest available rating to protect against damage from debris or impact. The nature of the repurposed material lends itself to a high moisture resistance, as well, and aesthetically composite slate is nearly indiscernible from traditional slate.

At Prospect Contracting, we work primarily with EcoStar LLC Roofing Tiles. EcoStar is considered the "leading manufacturer of sustainable, environmentally friendly steep-slope roofing products [and was] established to meet the need for a recycled synthetic alternative to natural slate roofing." EcoStar's Class 4 synthetic composite roofing tiles not only offer the above listed characteristic advantages, but also come with a 50-year material warranty.
